A cherished meal in our family! My kids loved it and finished the leftovers the next day!

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter.
In a saucepan, combine heavy cream, milk, and minced garlic. Heat over medium heat until warm, but do not boil.
Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the prepared baking dish. Season with salt and pepper.
Sprinkle half of the crumbled bacon and half of the cheese over the potatoes.
Pour half of the cream mixture over the layered potatoes and cheese.
Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, bacon, and cheese, finishing with the cream mixture.
Dot the top with butter.
Cover the dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes.
Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the potatoes are tender.
Sprinkle with chopped parsley or chives before serving.
Variations & Tips
For a vegetarian version, simply omit the bacon and add sautéed mushrooms or spinach for extra flavor. If you have picky eaters, try using a milder cheese like Monterey Jack or Colby. You can also add a pinch of nutmeg to the cream mixture for a subtle warmth. For a bit of spice, sprinkle some red pepper flakes between the layers.
