  • Salt, to taste

  • Black pepper, to taste

  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced

  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil (divided)

  • 2 tablespoons butter (divided)

  • 2 teaspoons sugar

  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 300 g mushrooms, sliced

  • 200 g cheese (cheddar, gouda, or mozzarella), grated

  • Fresh parsley, chopped

  • 150 g bacon, sliced or chopped

  • Optional: a splash of cream or broth for added moisture
