Caramelized Roasted Onions Recipe

Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).
Prepare the Onions:
Peel the onions and slice off the ends. Cut the onions in half horizontally (or into thick rings if preferred) to expose the layers.
Place the onions cut side up in a baking dish or on a lined baking sheet.
Season the Onions:
Drizzle the olive oil (or melted butter) over the onion halves, ensuring they are well-coated.
If using, drizzle balsamic vinegar and honey or maple syrup on top to enhance caramelization.
Season with salt and pepper to taste and sprinkle fresh thyme leaves over each onion half.
Roast the Onions:
Cover the baking dish with foil and place it in the preheated oven.
Roast for about 25-30 minutes covered, until the onions begin to soften.
Remove the foil and continue roasting for an additional 20-25 minutes, or until the onions are golden brown and caramelized on top. You may want to baste them with their juices halfway through for extra flavor.
Serve:
Garnish with a few more fresh thyme leaves if desired and serve warm as a side dish or topping for steak, burgers, or roasted vegetables.
These Caramelized Roasted Onions are packed with flavor and make a perfect accompaniment to many main dishes. The slow roasting brings out the natural sweetness of the onions, giving them a rich, caramelized texture and flavor. Enjoy!
