For 4–6 small servings:

  • 2 ripe avocados, peeled and pitted
  • 150g (about 5 oz) smoked salmon, chopped (reserve a few slices for garnish)
  • 2 tablespoons cream cheese or sour cream
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (freshly squeezed)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small clove garlic, minced (optional)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Fresh dill or chives, for garnish
  • Lemon zest, for garnish
  • Crackers or toasted baguette slices, for serving (optional)
