Homemade Sloppy Joes on Texas Toast

Instructions:

1. Cook the Ground Beef and Vegetables:

In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef for 5–7 minutes, breaking it up as it browns.

Add the chopped green bell pepper and onion. Cook for another 4–5 minutes until softened.

Drain any excess fat from the skillet.

2. Make the Sloppy Joe Sauce:

Stir in the water, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, garlic powder, and yellow mustard.

Mix well until the sauce coats the beef and vegetables evenly.

3. Simmer the Mixture:

Reduce heat to low.

Simmer the mixture for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and flavors meld.

4. Toast the Texas Toast:

While the beef mixture simmers, toast the 6 slices of Texas toast in a toaster or under the oven broiler until golden brown.

5. Assemble the Sloppy Joes:

Spoon the hot beef mixture onto 3 slices of toasted Texas toast.

Top each with a slice of white American cheese.

Cover with the remaining toast slices to form sandwiches.

6. Serve and Enjoy:

Serve warm with your favorite sides like chips, fries, or a simple green salad.
