Homemade Vanilla Sugar Recipe
-
Prepare the jar
Clean, sanitize, and dry a sealable storage jar (a mason jar works well). -
Prepare the sugar
Place the granulated sugar into a medium bowl. -
Split the vanilla bean
Cut the vanilla bean pod open with scissors or a sharp knife. Split it lengthwise and scrape out the seeds with a spoon. -
Mix sugar and vanilla seeds
Stir the seeds into the sugar using a spoon or whisk until evenly dispersed. -
Add the vanilla pod
Place the scraped pod into the jar with the sugar. If it’s too long, cut it in half to fit. -
Infuse the flavor
Seal the jar and let it sit for at least 14 days. The longer it rests, the stronger the flavor. -
Store and use
Keep the sugar sealed in the jar. It will stay fresh for a long time and can be used in drinks, baked goods, and desserts.
