Monte Cristo Ham Sliders

My family loves these for movie nights and they are always the first snack to disappear from the serving tray When I brought these to a holiday party one year everyone demanded the recipe

  • Hawaiian rolls: These give a touch of sweetness and stay super soft Always look for fresh packages without crushed tops
  • Ham deli sliced: Brings saltiness and classic Monte Cristo flavor Choose honey or smoked ham for extra interest
  • Turkey deli sliced: Adds hearty texture and balances the richness Go for thicker cut slices if possible
  • Swiss cheese: Melts beautifully and adds a nutty taste Try to get real Swiss not processed versions
  • Salted butter: Brushed over the top for a golden rich finish European style has more flavor if you can get it
  • Egg: Helps the butter glaze cling to the buns and gives that French toast feel Check for farm fresh eggs for better color
  • Pepper: Adds a little kick and contrast to the sweetness Fresh cracked is best for flavor
  • Powdered sugar: Dusting on top brings the dish together and highlights the sweet savory combo Sift before sprinkling to prevent clumps
  • Raspberry or strawberry jam optional dipping: Adds bright tang and makes the dish feel special Look for jams with whole fruit for best taste

Step by Step Instructions

Slice the Rolls:
Use a serrated bread knife to slice the whole package of Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally You want to keep them all attached for easy assembly and even layering
Layer the Fillings:
Start with half of the Swiss cheese on the bottom layer then lay out all of the ham followed by all of the turkey and finish with the remaining Swiss cheese This stacking ensures every bite gets both meats and plenty of gooey cheese
Top and Prepare:
Place the top halves of the rolls back on to form the sandwich Brush the tops generously with the butter egg and pepper mixture Use a pastry brush to get all the edges so they bake up shiny and flavorful
Bake the Sliders:
Transfer your baking pan to a preheated 350 degree oven Bake uncovered for about twenty five minutes Watch for cheese to melt and buns to turn golden brown If they brown too quickly cover with foil loosely so they do not stick to the buns
Finish and Serve:
While hot dust the buns with powdered sugar Use a fine mesh sieve for an even coating Serve with a bowl of jam for dipping if desired It is this jam and sugar combination that makes them unmistakably Monte Cristo
