Such a delicious meal! It’s even better the next day… if you can resist until then :)
In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped onion, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
Shape the mixture into four equal-sized patties.
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they are browned and cooked through. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.
In the same skillet, add the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a simmer, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan.
Sprinkle the xanthan gum over the sauce and whisk continuously until the sauce thickens, about 2-3 minutes.
Return the hamburger steaks to the skillet, spooning the gravy over them. Let them simmer in the gravy for an additional 2-3 minutes to absorb the flavors.
Serve hot, with the gravy poured over the steaks.
Variations & Tips
For a different flavor profile, you can add a teaspoon of smoked paprika to the beef mixture for a smoky taste. If you prefer a bit of heat, a pinch of cayenne pepper can be added to the gravy. For those who enjoy mushrooms, sauté some sliced mushrooms in the skillet before making the gravy, and then add them back in with the hamburger steaks. This recipe can also be made with ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
