Sweet Heat Pickles

  • Step-by-Step Instructions

    Pickle Preparation (10 minutes):
    Drain pickles well but save the brine. Cut into uniform pieces for even flavor absorption. Pat dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. Set aside while preparing other ingredients.
    Creating Layers (15 minutes):
    Start with a clean, sterilized glass jar. Begin with a layer of pickle slices. Sprinkle with sugar, garlic, and herbs. Add jalapeños and red pepper flakes. Repeat until jar is filled. Leave some headspace at top.
    Sugar Dissolution (1 hour):
    Cover jar tightly. Gently turn jar every 15 minutes. Watch as sugar begins to dissolve. Natural pickle juice will start forming.
    Marination Process (12-24 hours):
    Keep at room temperature for first few hours. Shake occasionally to distribute flavors. Transfer to refrigerator overnight. Let flavors develop for 24 hours before eating.
