“The only cobbler recipe I’ll ever need! I’ve made this three times already.”

Fresh Southern Peach Cobbler
This classic Southern dessert captures the sweetness of ripe peaches under a tender, buttery topping with just the right touch of cinnamon and nutmeg. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for the perfect comforting treat.

Ingredients

For the Filling:

Ingredient Quantity
Fresh peaches, sliced 9 cups (about 8 peaches or 3 lbs)
Lemon juice 1 tablespoon
Granulated sugar ½ cup
Ground cinnamon ½ teaspoon
Ground nutmeg ¼ teaspoon
Cornstarch 2 tablespoons
Salt ½ teaspoon
For the Topping:

Ingredient Quantity
All-purpose flour 2 cups
Granulated sugar 1 cup
Baking powder 1 tablespoon
Salt ½ teaspoon
Butter, chilled and grated 12 tablespoons
Boiling water ½ cup
For the Cinnamon Sugar Topping:

Ingredient Quantity
Granulated sugar ⅓ cup
Ground cinnamon 2 teaspoons
Instructions
Preheat Oven & Prepare the Filling:
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced peaches, lemon juice, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cornstarch, and salt. Gently stir to coat the peaches evenly. Transfer the mixture to a 9×13-inch baking dish.

Bake the Filling First:
Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 10 minutes. While the filling bakes, begin preparing the topping.
Make the Topping:
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add the chilled, grated butter and mix until evenly coated with the flour mixture.
Add Boiling Water:
Pour in the boiling water and stir just until combined. The dough will be lumpy—this is the texture you’re aiming for in cobbler.
Add Topping to the Peaches:
Remove the partially baked peach filling from the oven. Drop spoonfuls of the topping mixture over the hot filling, covering most of the surface.
Prepare Cinnamon Sugar & Sprinkle:
Mix the cinnamon and sugar in a small bowl, then sprinkle evenly over the cobbler topping.

Final Bake:
Return the dish to the oven and bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbling around the edges.
Tip: Place the baking dish on a larger baking sheet to catch any drips during baking.
Serve Warm:
Let the cobbler cool slightly. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, if desired.
