When tomatoes spoil, most of us toss them straight into the trash. But before you throw them out, you might want to know that rotten tomatoes can actually be quite useful. From gardening to natural fertilizing, these neglected fruits still have value. Here are a few clever ways to give spoiled tomatoes a second life.
1. Growing Fresh Tomato Plants
Even if a tomato is past its prime, its seeds are still alive. Instead of discarding it:
-
Slice the tomato into thin rounds.
-
Lay the slices directly on top of moist soil in a pot or garden bed.
-
Cover with a light layer of soil (about 1–2 cm).
-
Water gently and keep in a sunny spot.
Within a few weeks, seedlings will start to sprout, and with proper care, you’ll have thriving tomato plants producing fresh fruit.
