Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
Fold in the chocolate chips, reserving a handful to sprinkle on top.
Spread the cookie dough evenly into a 10-inch cast iron skillet.
Sprinkle the reserved chocolate chips over the top.
Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the center is set.
Allow the cookie to cool slightly before serving warm, directly from the skillet.
Variations & Tips
For a nutty twist, consider adding a half-cup of chopped walnuts or pecans to the dough. If you have a sweet tooth, you can mix in white chocolate chips or chunks of your favorite candy bar. For those who prefer a less sweet option, try reducing the sugar by a quarter cup. You can also experiment with different types of chocolate, such as dark or milk chocolate chips, to suit your family’s taste preferences.
