Ingredients
To make Salisbury Steak with French Onion Gravy, you’ll need:
For the Salisbury Steak:
1 lb ground beef
½ cup breadcrumbs
1 egg
¼ cup milk
1 small onion, finely chopped
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
Salt and pepper to taste
For the French Onion Gravy:
2 tbsp butter
2 large onions, thinly sliced
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tbsp flour
2 cups beef broth
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
Prepare the Patties:
In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, chopped onion, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Shape the mixture into 4–6 oval patties.
Cook the Patties:
Heat a skillet over medium heat and sear the patties for 3–4 minutes per side until browned. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.
Make the French Onion Gravy:
In the same skillet, melt butter and sauté the sliced onions until golden brown and caramelized, about 10–15 minutes. Add garlic and cook for another minute. Sprinkle in the flour and stir to combine. Gradually pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, whisking continuously until the gravy thickens. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Combine and Simmer:
Return the patties to the skillet, spoon the gravy over them, and simmer for 10–15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
